Cheshire · Roof Cleaning & Moss Removal
Done by hand and treated, not blasted. A pressure washer takes the moss off and the tile surface with it.
Moss is not just cosmetic. It holds water against the tile, it breaks off in clumps and blocks the gutters and downpipes, and in a hard frost the water it traps freezes and spalls the face off a concrete tile. On a north-facing pitch in Cheshire it will establish within a few years and keep coming back.
What it is usually not is a reason to replace the roof. Plenty of people are told otherwise by someone who knocked on the door. If the tiles underneath are sound, cleaning and treating is a few hundred pounds and buys you years.

Scope
Worth knowing
Pressure washing a roof is quick, it looks dramatic, and it is the single most common way a cleaning job turns into a re-roofing job. Concrete tiles have a thin coloured surface layer; a lance takes it straight off, leaving a porous grey tile that soaks up water and grows moss back faster than before. On slate it drives water up under the laps and into the loft, and it will strip the bedding out from under ridge tiles.
Scraping by hand and treating takes longer and costs a bit more. It also leaves you with the roof you started with. If someone has quoted you half our price for a jet-wash, that is the difference you are paying for.

FAQs
Something not covered? Ring us. We'd rather answer it now than have you guessing.
07470 988 330A typical semi usually falls between £350 and £700 depending on pitch, access and how established the moss is. Gutter clearing on its own is less. If the job can be reached safely from a tower rather than full scaffold it comes down considerably.
Scraping alone and it will be visibly back within two or three years. With the biocide treatment you should get five or more, longer on a south-facing pitch. Nothing stops it permanently in this climate. Anyone promising that is selling something.
Indirectly, yes. It holds moisture against the tile so frost can spall the surface, it blocks gutters and causes overflow down the wall, and the clumps wash into the downpipes. It is rarely urgent, but leaving it for a decade costs more than dealing with it.
Yes, with photographs. Being up there is the best look anyone will get at your roof, so we report what we find (slipped tiles, a tired valley, perished felt at the eaves) whether or not it leads to more work. If it just needs a clean, we will say that too.
